Our financial needs fall roughly into these categories:

  1. Food for the raptors
  2. Medical supplies, equipment, and tests
  3. Office supplies and services
  4. *NEW: Help us build a flight cage for our education birds!

We order the mice, rats, quail, and other food items for the raptors from special suppliers. Here are rough estimates of the costs to feed the various species that we care for:

  • $7 a week feeds a kestrel or a small owl
  • $15 a week feeds a large hawk or owl
  •  $25 a week feeds an eagle or vulture

Medical supplies, equipment, and tests
Medicines like anti-inflammatories and antibiotics, and testing equipment and supplies for blood and fecal tests, are among many medical supplies that we use daily and which are costly.

Office supplies and services
In addition to typical office supplies such as paper, pens, and pencils, we also pay for telephone, web hosting, postage, etc. This category includes transportation to rescue birds and transfer to other rehab facilities.

We operate on a lean budget. If you have questions about where your donation might go, please don’t hesitate to contact us by phone 319-248-9770 or email help@theraregroup.org.

We will acknowledge you as a donor on our web page unless you request that your gift remain anonymous. We can’t thank you enough for your generosity!

New flight cage for our education birds

RARE would like to build a flight cage for our education birds!   RARE currently provides continuing care for four raptors that are non-releasable, due to physical limitations that would inhibit their ability to survive in the wild.  These birds now enjoy life at our RARE facility, and occasionally, they go “on tour” in order to educate the public about raptors and their important part in the environment.  Our proposed flight cage will provide a significant improvement to their quality of life, by giving them additional living area.  We have set up a Go Fund Me page to raise the money needed for this new space.  Please consider supporting the “stars” of RARE.
